When will I see you again...

This is for you.. You know who you are ;-)

Youth is beautiful

Every now and then, we go to our friends' houses and we see old framed family photos around. Ever so often, we'll see our friends' mother's picture and say, "Wahh... Aunty, you were so beautiful when you were younger!" (this doesnt mean they're ugly now)

It happens so often that it makes me wonder... Is every girl (or should i say, young woman?) beautiful?

Being in that "young woman" age group now (early twenties), I guess me and my peers can't see the beauty in all our peers. In our little world, there are the "hot chicks"... and the "pretty girls"... and the regular girls... and some unfortunate few that make the guys go "What?! Her?! Ugh!"

Since I am yet to come across an ugly picture of an aunty in her youth, I guess it brings me to the conclusion that all young women are beautiful.

So that means, even those "ugly" girl friends we have now are beautiful. We just don't know how to appreciate their beauty now.

Young women, don't waste your youth with an inferiority complex. You are beautiful.

It came, went, and will never come again.

That's time.

That's moments in life.

It's that time in kindergarten.
When sitting on that HUGE (relative to our size) slide was the bravest thing anyone could've done.

It's those times at home back then.
When I fight furiously with my brother, or play wildly with him.

It's that time in primary school.
After UPSR, when class rivalry was high and we had all those sports tournaments in my disgusting school field that stank so bad, but we didnt care when we were playing.

It's that time in secondary school.
Every form was a different world. Each with special experiences of its own. This and that teenage love crisis. Those seemingly big dramas that in retrospect, are so trivial. Beating guys at "conquer" aka "titik" and stabbing their ego at the same time. Jumping up and down and picking cherries off the school cherry tree. Reading story books under the table during class. Copying homework that I forgot to do. Climbing through the hole in the school fence to cut school.

It's the SSS Camps and YLDPs
When we did all nighters, learnt strange songs, played fun games, met funnier people, and experienced God filled highs.

It's Jeremiah School.
The time I had Gerviene as my roommate. Chit Shen to terrorise in sessions. Friends to deceive in Mafia. Hearing Gervie, Erreekka and Charleen screaming for 30 mins every morning to wake us up in Kuantan. Clowning around with them. To literally LMAO, LOL, and ROFL. Oh the things we did. The most memorable of them all, we dont tell in public.

It's the time in MCKL.
Joining the rush hour crowd every morning to get to class every morning. Seeing blind people walking around. Staying back for hours after classes to play bball. Walking to Bayu's for meals. Talking fun stuff with our lecturers. Talking with En Ning. Teasing Kheng Li. Smiling at Hsing. Listening to Kelvinder. Keeping up with Hannah. Forcing Choong Zeen to talk. Wondering how Ian can entertain ppl with lame jokes, rain or shine. Camwhoring with Sara. Playing the fool at OB Nite. Doing things I never thought I would. And of course, lots of boy-girl drama.

It's staying in my flat in Nottingham Malaysia.
Chasing lizards for 2 hours at night. Ignoring my lizard fearing flatmate when a lizard fell in my rice cooker. Sitting at the balcony with Divya and just talking at 2-4am. Doing all nighters to complete assignments. Shouting across the balcony to terrorize Nico. Pouring cold water over the divider on my flatmates when they're bathing. Giving Ankita what I thought to be a dead big green bug in a box (i guess it proved to be not dead when it flew out to her face when she opened it).

It's hanging out in Nico's flat.
When my entrance caused a bunch of cool macho guys (or so they think they are) to go wailing in unison in a girly high pitch voice "Oh my Godddd!!!". Playing Cho tai ti with Nico, Vincent, Gary, Danny, Azri, Julian, and Zul. Stressing during exam time. Seeing Vincent permanently on his stomach on his bed, and just seeing him sitting upright a grand total of 2 times the whole semester. Constantly hearing Caleb's "whateverahhh!" day n night. Going for meals and late night supper with them.

It came, went, and will never come again.

It makes everything seem more precious...

Knowing that no matter how we try to bring back that moment in time... Even if we manage to put all the same people at the same place... We can never again live what we once lived through.

Home. Kindergarten. Primary School. Secondary School. JS. MCKL. Nottingham. There were good and bad times. But at the end of the day, it's all good =)

We can just let it be a nice little memory to reminisce on in the future.

I miss...

  • seeing my parents as my invincible protectors
  • seeing the world as a nice, happy n sunshiny place to be
  • not worrying about being backstabbed
  • walking around without having to carry a handphone and purse
  • asking my dad to buy me an ice-cream that can brighten up my whole day just like that
  • being able to run around without ppl thinking I'm crazy or being chased by a rapist
  • the days when there was more room for imagination, and dreaming the impossible was so possible
  • the days when the world seemed to be like that Barney song "I love you, you love me, we are one big family", and not "I hate you, you hate me, let's gang up and kill Barney".
  • the days when people don't question their sexuality
  • the days when love isn't confused with lust
  • the days when days just dragged by and a year took an eternity to go by
  • having no worries

SSS: Worship team

I miss those days...

...being part of the Senior Sunday School (aka youth fellowship) worship team. The peak of our service was in camps. That's when God touches the hearts of youth strongest, hence, we in the worship team better not screw up.

I think this is the earliest camp I played at, Day Camp 2003. Don't be fooled by the name. It was 3 days and 2 nights long.

Photobucket

Haha.. OK, I know I look funny. Yes, the only girl there can only be me. N YES! The person in white IS a girl!

Below is the worship team in action. See if u can find me.

Photobucket

Through being the youngest in the worship team back then, I had all these "ko ko"-s and "jie-jie"-s (not in pic) to guide me and encourage me.

The next camp (Day Camp 2004), ALL the previous worship team members had already graduated and left. Hence, leaving me alone. The worship team consisted of ONE pianist =.=' Not having enough time to train up enough new worship team members in time for the next camp, I imported some from Metro Tabernacle (Joachim, John and Victor)

Photobucket

For the year end SSS Camp 2004, I had Bryan Yong, my piano student whom I'm most proud of up till now; and Jason Kok who's a guitar freak who improved a LOT over a short time. Both had a passion for it, worked hard, and had parents who really supported them.

Photobucket

From that little newbie worship team above, it grew to be an experienced and large worship team (as shown below) by the time Camp 2005 came along.

Photobucket

Below, is the group of us that played at One Rock concert at The Mines in 2006 as Passion Youth, founded by Jason.

Photobucket

We're a newbie group that never took off. But what does that matter? We're here to worship God. Fame and success is nothing.

Through my years in the SSS worship team, my role changed from being that little newbie to the "jie jie". It was a very stressful for me as I was (asst) worship coordinator all those years. But being part of it was a God filled high.

Looking back, I have no idea how I did it... and I don't know if I'll be so committed again.

I lost out on many other things by being in the worship team. Constantly being at worship practices every free time we had at camps, I lost out on building closer relationships with Sunday Schoolers who weren't in the worship team or student committee. This is my only regret.

Other than that, being in the worship team gave me good Christian friends and helped me grow as a person and a better pianist.

Spice girls promotes safe sex

I just got an e-mail from a friend which just totally opened my eyes to one of my old favourite Spice Girls song, 2 Becomes 1.

I admit I never really heard the lyrics. Just liked how it sounded n stuff. But the parts of lyrics I heard sounded pretty good. But that song that my friends and I liked as primary school students... Howww was I to know that it's DIRTY!!! Ok, not really dirty.. but still.. not exactly healthy for primary school students if they knew the meaning.

I'm pretty sure some of you will go search the lyrics up online, so below are the lyrics, and even the video of their song. Highlighted in red is when Spice Girls tell us... WEAR A CONDOM!!!

Candle light and soul forever
A dream of you and me together
Say you believe it, say you believe it
Free your mind of doubt and danger
Be for real don't be a stranger
We can achieve it, we can achieve it

Come a little bit closer baby, get it on, get it on
'Cause tonight is the night when two become one

[Chorus:]
I need some love like I never needed love before
(Wanna make love to ya baby)
I had a little love, now I'm back for more
(Wanna make love to ya baby)
Set your spirit free, it's the only way to be

Silly games that you were playing
Empty words we both were saying
Let's work it out boy, let's work it out boy
Once again if we endevour
Love will bring us back together
Take it or leave it, take it or leave it

Are you as good as I remember baby, get it on, get it on
'Cause tonight is the night when two become one

[Chorus]

Ah, oh wow
Ah, oh wow

Be a little bit wiser baby, put it on, put it on
'Cause tonight is the night when two become one

[Chorus]

Audrey in KL

Yes, people, I'm back in KL.

Coming back here straight from UK instead of goin back to Beijing first has proved to bring much inconvenience since a load of my things are left there. But thank God that at the very last minute, I brought my IC along to UK. Also, thank God that my lost handbag which contained my IC was found.

Anyhow, aren't u all happy I'm back?! Hehe..

Come on! Call me out if u're in KL! JS friends and others, invite me over to your homes (applies to Malaysia and Singapore only). Gerv! Will u be free? Hols anytime soon? Summer break's till about mid Sept... So, call me!

Tuesday, June 24, 2008

Banned from China. Stuck in UK.

Everyone keeps having to ask... "Where IS Audrey?"

Those who know me better and gets constant updates from me would expect me to be back in Beijing, China by now. But, no, I'm not there. I am, as the title says, banned from China and stuck in UK.

---

Are you wondering what am I doing in Beijing and London? Why am i going BACK to BEIJING instead of Malaysia?

The story goes...

My parents are working in Beijing, China. So since it's my summer holidays, I am to stay with my parents there for as long as I can before Yr2 starts in Sept (1-3 months).

During my stay, my mom and I are to follow my dad to London, UK, on a business trip. He worked while we holidayed. The trip was supposed to be from 14-23 June. Yesterday at the airport, the airport personnel found that my china visa is expired and that I cannot reenter China.

WHY didn't we check or know that my visa's expired beforehand? It's a long story that I'm too lazy to tell here. But it's not a stupid reason. We were informed by a credible source that I could get back in etc.

So, here I am, stuck in London. My dad has gone back to China, but my mom stayed back with me. Thank God we got a church friend (Nicholas Yee) here who we am staying with in the mean time.

---

What to do?

We have no idea.

We have 2 options.
1. GET me a China visa (I have already purchased my London-Beijing and Beijing-KL flight)
2. Send me straight to KL which will cost my family a bomb.

China visa option has proven to be really difficult. We lined up at the China visa place for 3 hours this morning and STILL couldn't get in (Olympic's fault). Anyway, we found out that since I am not a UK student or have any sorta big shot status, I'll have to apply for the China visa from my home country. So since i'm stuck here, that's impossible, and it just points to option two.

---

Well, that's the update for now. I have no idea when I'll be back in Beijing and/or China.

You may have good intentions, but pls..
1. Do not call. It is too expensive for me to answer.
2. Do not sms asking how I am or for my whereabouts UNLESS you can be of REAL help. Eg. Got real useful contacts that'll help me get my China visa, free airline tickets London-KL, a free accommodation for my mom n I while in London from the 25th June onwards etc.

Always Be My Baby

Ever since I heard David Cook's version of "Always Be My Baby", I've been hooked to it.. listening to it over and over again together in my "Current Fav" playlist.

After while, I thought, "Hey! It's about time I heard the original again".

So I searched it on YouTube, and wow.. it was strange! After being so used to hearing it David Cook style, hearing a woman sing it was so weird! =P

Check it out yourself..

Mangkukology

Introducing...

Guest speaker: Prof Mangkuk Gary the Man Who Cannot Eat Happily Without A Bowl.

He couldnt believe his audience was so backward in their understanding of the origins and development of the bowl. They were mere consumers who blindly used it without knowing it's full potential, or sales people who just sold bowls for profits without truly to understanding the product.

And so begins his lecture on the Origins and Development of Bowls.

"Unicorns are not advised to use bowls"

"This is how you determine your perfect bowl size"

Joshua: "Is this how to hold a bowl?"
Audrey: "Haha! No, dum dum..."

Audrey: "Hold like this"

"NO Audrey... NO!!! Like THIS... MANGKUK~!!!"

"Haihh... This class is hopeless..."

KL girl in Kuantan

22-25 May 2008

Immediately after my trip to Redang with my Uni CF friends, I spent the rest of the week in Kuantan. I stayed with Phoebe and Tiffanie who were my YLDP 2003, 2004, 2005 & 2007 and Jeremiah School and Youth Quake 2006 friends.

See here... This is Phoebe and I on the beach. Ah.. Ngam, she's wearing the JS shirt.

And this is Tiffanie and I.

Here's a group pic outside Phoebe's house (Tiff is behind the camera). These are the people who made my stay in Kuantan enjoyable =) From left: Phoebe, Gary, me, Joshua, Sanjev.

Gary is my uni friend from Kuantan who is also Phoebe and Tiffanie's school friend. Joshua is Gary, Phoebe and Tiffanie's school friend whom I met when Phoebe visited KL. Sanjev is their school friend who I met there.

Most of my time in Kuantan was spent eating...

Typical Malaysian style fellowship

A very gluttonous pic of Gary... hehe =P

Makan sampai muka cam ni...

My super cool Pan Mee! THREE colours weh! N it's not fake colouring! Hehe.. I almost expected my food to taste like sweets when I took my first bite =P It reminds me of those long green or pink/red sour strips I use to eat when I was younger.

A lot of time was spent on the beach too

Not many pics were taken during our beach trips. Either too dark or too lazy.

Here's a nice one on Bay Four. I really like the colours of the sky. Soft like cotton.

Other times...

We looked through Phoebe and Tiffanie's photo albums which had some of Gary and Joshua too.

A cozy pic of Gary and Sanjev. So sweet =)

We watched Indiana Jones cinema.

(Blond) Note: Eventhough it's "just" Kuantan, and you can wear your pajamas to the malls, it is not advisable to wear your short shorts and light sleeveless top to the cinema. They have strong air conditioning too.

In Phoebe's house, we watched "Juno"...

...and this movie musical "Rent". Hmm.. Interesting movie =P
Photobucket

After church, Tiffanie started little 3 yr old Phoebe on a new hobby. And her fav model was jie jie Phoebe. Here's her work. Not bad for a 3 yr old huh...

Thanks...

...to the Tan family: For letting me stay in their home. God has really blessed them with the gift of hospitality.

...to Phoebe, Tiffanie, Gary, Joshua, Sanjev: For time spent together and the funny stories (Haha.. Love the bapok story, Sanjev)
